Getting On Track in Time (Got It!)
Getting on Track in Time (Got It!) is a school-based, early intervention, therapeutic program that targets children between the ages of five and eight with problem behaviours. Got it! works closely with schools, families and carers to identify and support these children who otherwise can go on to develop more serious conduct and mental health problems later in life, with negative impacts on relationships, academic abilities, employment prospects and general wellbeing.
The Got It! program is funded by NSW Health under the Living Well initiative and is run on the Central Coast by the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Got It! is currently being rolled out across NSW, following a pilot phase in Mount Druitt, Dubbo and Newcastle, and is based on a similar program implemented in Victoria since 2004.
An evaluation of the pilot Got It! program across three sites in 2013 found significant improvements in child behaviour scores for targeted children. Improvements in behaviour were maintained by about 85% of children 6-8 months after the targeted intervention. Significant improvements were found in parenting practices, with a majority of parents continuing to improve at 6-8 months after participating in the Got It! targeted intervention.
Additional benefits to schools and parents such as increased connections with the school and local community and improved help-seeking by parents for assistance with other health, mental health and social needs were also noted.
